“Attitude” defined means one’s thoughts or feelings on a particular subject manifested through their behavior. This can be directed at persons, things, or ideas. It is something we carry; it is something we wear. Others can see and feel it wherever we go, and as is the case with everything in life, it has a ripple effect. It is also something that deeply affects us, down to our very core. That’s the big deal. That’s why it matters.
Below are some excerpts of what some great and successful minds have had to say about the power of attitude, but are these words applicable to those of us who are just following the daily grind? The short answer is yes. The longer answer is yes, but no one has to consider their day-to-day to be mundane or insignificant. The truth is, any job, any task, any project can be significant and impactful if you approach it with the right attitude.
Believe in the Power of Belief:
“It is your attitude, not your aptitude, that will determine your altitude”. -Zig Ziglar
The large majority of the people we consider to be successful came from poor or difficult circumstances. They decided not to let that get them down and they decided to have a can-do attitude, over and over, until they reached their goals. They simply decided to believe that they could and relentlessly pursued what they wanted. That was their secret weapon, which is accessible to every single one of us if we want to claim it.
Time for a Change:
“A bad attitude is like a flat tire, until you change it, you aren’t going anywhere”. -Denzel Washington
“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude”. -Maya Angelou
Recognize and admit when you need an attitude adjustment (as we ALL do sometimes). Don’t beat yourself up, just be honest with yourself and change what you can, one step at a time.
A Little Positivity Goes a Long Way:
“People may hear your words, but they feel your attitude”. -John C. Maxwell
“Attitude is a little thing that goes a long way”-Winston Churchil
It may seem like it’s not a big factor, but it is the underlying foundation of everything that we think, say and do. It determines the way that we approach everything. People will always remember the attitude in which you spoke and the attitude with which you faced each day or each issue more vividly than they will remember your exact words. As representatives of a call center, this is especially important for us and gives us an opening to really improve someone’s experience.
Always Carry an Attitude of Gratitude:
“Gratitude turns what you have into enough, and more”- Melody Beattie
“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” -William Arthur Ward
It turns out, the more you make the conscious decision to be grateful for what you already have and yes, even being grateful for the tiniest good thing, the more you create opportunities to keep feeling that strengthening joy that comes with gratitude.
Never Give Up:
“It’s really hard to beat someone who never gives up”-Babe Ruth
“It does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you do not stop.”-Confucius
This was the other not-so-secret secret weapon for anyone who wrote themselves a successful story; they believed they could and they never gave up, no matter what obstacles were thrown their way. Success, mind you, does not have to mean being a huge star or having lots of money. It simply means you have found peace in your purpose, and it is a very personal journey. If you are consistently working towards your goal, whatever it may be, and truly trying to be the best version of yourself, success is already yours.
